Where did you grow up?
Hiela- I was born in Argentina and lived half my childhood there, then moved to Uruguay and been living here until today.
Lila – Uruguay, but I moved to the UK for a while when I was younger.
What is your musical background?
Lila- I am self taught, started playing synths when I was 16, its my main instrument and I just improvise with other instruments and singing.
Hiela- Not musically trained, also self taught.
Musically, what are your biggest influences and who are your favorite musicians?
Hiela- Madonna, Bjork, Selena Quintanilla, Grace Jones, Sade, Gilda, Mercedes Sosa, Ivi Queen, Lana del Rey, Ima Sumac, Prince, Roisin Murphi, Rita Lee between others.
Lila – My favorite musicians are Brian Eno, Porches, Blank Banshee, Ariel Pink, Yung Lean, Kate Bush, Joy Division, Aphex Twin, Xiu Xiu, Eduardo Darnauchans and many more.
How would you describe your own style?
Hiela- My style is a hybrid of varied styles. My essence is obviously pop, but with tropical, electronic and folkloric music reminiscences of my continent.
Lila- Mine is a weird mix, I am highly influenced by my European roots but I also incorporate a lot of aspects from South American culture onto my work.
In what ways has your newest music changed from when you first started?
Lila – For me it changed because before this I rarely made music with my vocals.
Hiela – At first my idea was to sing in a band with a more classical and tropical nature, now it is a constant experimentation and I’m constantly searching to find new vocal ways, the voice as an instrument, not only for the song but also through the performance on stage.
What would be your dream venue in which to perform?
Lila – Since a young age I have always wanted to perform in the Shackewell Arms in London, so many musicians I admire always play there.
Hiela – I do not have specific dreams in terms of playing in a particular venue, my only dream is to reach the most unexpected borders. Countries and remote cities.
