An Interview With KAIYA

Where dance and fashion meet music…Where poetry and philosophy are united in all the shades of the black-and-white piano palette…Where the silhouette touches a hungry canvas…Where the soft velvet of the voice is intertwined with the silky strings of interlaced melodies…From this rich and delicate matrix of artistry, Kaiya is continuously born.

Her creativity takes its inspiration from old romantic french movies and performances by Serge Gainsbourg…Songs by Nina Simone and Amy Winehouse…The femininity of Marilyn Monroe and Sophia Loren…The elegant sophistication of Antonio Marras and Rocco Barocco’s fashion design…Renaissance and Surrealist art…Klimt’s gilded paintings and Degas’s

dancers…the classical ballet and poetry of the 20th century…The tenderness of falling leaves…The soft brilliance of sunsets.

  1. Where did you grow up?

– Technically in Ukraine, but practically I’m from all over the globe, I moved between Paris & ,

Tokyo, Milan & NYC, as fashion would move me to different places.

  1. Is your family musical?

No, Not at all really. My mom is a psychologist and my dad is into housing repair. But the house I grew up in was full of music, women dancing with colorful scarfs, myself swinging in a waltz.. It was fun …

  1. How did you start your music journey?

I got a piano as a birthday present, and then everything started to develop like crazy from there))

  1. How did you meet ÅMBE and ADIM Records?

We met while I was looking for the way to really create music. When I still didn’t know which direction I was going to move in,  aMBe was like “I know what you need and how you should get there. Let’s do it!”. And then through her the ADIM Records deal happened as well. ✨

  1. How do you work on music with them?

It’s the whole process, from writing lyrics together to putting down the music, making it sound the way that it feels like KAIYA to me and then recording, editing, and then mixing it. Lots of work ladies and gentlemen…:)

  1. You released two singles on ADIM Records. They are awesome. Really. Are you planning on releasing any more singles this year? When is your EP coming?

Thank you so much… Yes, you will definitely hear something new this year! I’m hoping for 2 more songs …  I also want to work on a music video, so please keep an eye on me, I promise it’s worth it. 😉

  1. I loved both of your lyric videos. They look great and unique. Who do you work with? How the ideas of these videos came to you and your team?

I love collaborating with people, and I want to know how they feel about things. I want to know exactly what they see when they hear my music. From there we can think together and see where this process can bring us. I consider myself a pretty lucky person, especially lucky with people, and I’m blessed to have so many talented creatures around me! A good friend of mine did the video, Gabriel Genesis, he is an amazing upcoming filmmaker, so I’m happy he still has some time for me.. I don’t know for how long.. )) but until then I feel lucky to work with him!

  1. What is your next song going to be about?

I’m working on a couple of lyrics, still experimenting… But in the end, every song is about life, about the way we live and feel it. So I’m trying to reflect my life in my creativity. I can only say it will be another amazing journey for me, my awesome team and hopefully for my fans!
