Interview With Talented Music Artist Isobella Caroline Boucher

Isobella Caroline Boucher is a music artists from NYC. Music has always been a passion in her life ,since a very early age. Although her music career as a “music artist “ started 5 years ago. She met a producer in Brooklyn and he had heard a few of her musical compositions ,*along with the lyrics she had written , and told her to come into the studio. It did not at first ,transpire into much since the other artist left to Amsterdam after finishing her first two tracks.

Slightly disheartened, yet with no plans of giving up. Isobella Caroline ventured out on her own.
She began doing her own music, working on her lyrics and creating her sound. Her voice has been described as hauntingly unique and beautfiul . Her first cd “Was it All A Dream, came out in 2017, and won the Akademia Awards 2017 for best pop electronica album.

She also has more cds out, which she loved creating. “C Tiarra Hotel” “Muse in The Garden” and “Secrets” which is soon to be released.

She loves music, and all types, from classical to Hard rock. Currently ,she has just finished a few singles ,which are available to be listened to on Reverbnation.

When asked about her music, she always seem quiete to speak, as the process to her , although she loves to speak of music as a whole is private and personal to her. She says “Music is an essence, that fills your soul, as to create or just take in” She feels that sometimes too much talk about creating ,as it is a very clear and experimental process, can be damaged by broading the spectrum of analysis , it just to her is one of the beautiful things she loves to do

Which instruments do you play?

I can only play the piano keyboard.

What was the first tune(s) you learned?

On the topic of tunes, I never was taught to learn to play anything, that was exciting enough for me to remember. I had played the bells in third grade and truly can’t remember what tune I was taught or played. At that time, I had no plans whatsoever to be a musician or a musical artist.
I was raised as a dancer, so my own learnings with music are purely self taught.

Is your family musical?

Not really, except one member is a classical pianist.

Describe your family member’s musical interests and abilities.

I can not say I come from a musical family , although they all have a love of the arts.

Which famous musicians do you admire? Why?

I admire as musicians, Yo Yo Ma, Vivaldi and Bach. As music artists, Nina Simone, Florence and the Machine, Grimmes, Kate Bush.

Which famous musicians have you learned from?

As to say learn from, I must hold a silent thought to that qhestion.
It would be , that I learned more from listening closely to certain artists alone, by myself. I would say Nina Simone for the blues. Grimmes, Bjork , Florence and the Machine and Brianna, since my style may be similiar. Classical artists such as Vivaldi, Yo Yo Ma, Bach to understand the true meaning of music.

Who was your first teacher? Other teachers?

I am self taught with music, but I would say my influences with dance as I studied at ABT, Martha Graham and Jennifer Muller in NYC. Music is part of dance as , being a dancer ,you must feel the beats of any type of music to dance. So with that, my influence to and about doing music came from dance. It is more of a passion.

Describe your first instrument. Other instruments ?

My first instrument was the bells, in third grade. I must admit I did not like them at all. I just wanted to dance.

What are your fondest musical memories? In your house? In your neighborhood or town?

My fondest musical memories was hearing the band H. I. M. for the first time. I fell in love with the music from that band and was playing it non stop all over the house. Singing with each tune.

Were you influenced by old records & tapes? Which ones?

Yes I am influenced by all types of music, any piece of music I can hear, I will listen to. I found some old Nina simone music right before I began my music career. I listened to Lilac Wine, Sinner Man, all her pieces and became influenced. To her sound, her meaning and her music.

Who are your favorite musicians? Groups? CD’s?

My favorite, again my list is long. I love the band H.I.M.,Florence and the Machine,Grimmes,Bjork,Sia, Rhianna,Justin Timberlake, Tori Amos, Pearl Jam, Type 0 negative,Grimmes, along with more. The list to me is too long to repeat, because there is so many good musicians and bands out there. I think you just have to look.

Have you been in competitions? Fleadh’s? Any prizes?

Yes, I have. My cd , which was my first cd, “Was it All a Dream ” won the best electronica/dance album of 2017 for the Akademia Awards in April in Los Angeles, California.
I also am a semi finalist in Italy, for my Music video and song of “Tell me How ” for the San Mauro Torinese International Film Festival 2018. Also about 5 or more of my music videos have won various competitons.

Do you perform in public? Describe those occasions? Concerts, radio, TV?

I do , but not as much as I would like to. I did perform at a fashion show and on various radio shows. My music is on Iheartradio along with Deezer. I will say, I was shocked when one store I went into was playing my song “Alibi” . I had to step back and said wow, it actually sounds good. I am always surprised.

Do you play for dances? Step-dancers? Describe the differences.

Yes, I have used my music for one play I was in at the MITF festival last year to a choreographed piece along with a few more. Those pieces were compositions without lyrics.

How do you handle mistakes during a performance?

The best I can. I take it as, it happens, then try to cover it the best I can.

Do you get nervous before a performance or a competition?

Yes, everyone does, at least I do.

What advice would you give to beginners who are nervous?

Just to do your own thing, practice, watch other artists and start being you, remember you were artistic enough to want to do music , so go for it. I saw practice.

Do you attend sessions? What makes a good session?

Yes, I do. A good session is going in clear minded and the understanding anything can happen. Once you get the grasp on the situation ,go with the flow.

How often and for how long do you practice?

I practice every day. I love to sing and wrote lyrics, I would say maybe 2 hours or longer.

What do you practice – exercises, new tunes, hard tunes, etc.?

I practice my voice by just singing. I then re listen to myself, then re du the piece again.
Exercises, well I have learned a few but not every exercise works to each singer. I like to practice holding notes for as long as my voice gives out. I practice all tunes.

Do you teach music?

No I do not.

How do you balance your music with other obligations – mate, children, job?

I balance my music with my other obligations and I have many, by just doing it when I am free to do my music, I do not actually think about it, I just do. I need music , I love music , so I just do it.
